The discussion of climate change is one that is more important now than ever before and we should all seriously consider our impact on this planet. Even if you think you can't make a difference there are so many easy things that you can incorporate into your daily routine that will help save energy and let you live a green and clean life. If you don't know where to start, allow us to share some tips that will help you save energy and money and get better use out of things you already own.
1. Saving Water & Electricity
This is a given but can be easily overlooked. Not only does this help us go green but it will also save you some green in your pocket (see what I did there?) Here are a few things you can do to save on water and electricity usage and costs in your home. Making little adjustments like unplugging electronics when they're not in use, taking shorter showers and turning off the water when you brush your teeth, and hand washing your clothes and hanging them on a drying rack to dry them can all conserve energy and H2O.
2. Using Less Gas
Gas is used for so many things that hurt our planet every day. Some of the things we can control and other times, there just simply isn’t a better alternative just yet. If you live in a city consider walking to biking to work as an alternative to driving, or use public transportation when possible. You can even buy energy-saving appliances like gas stoves. Plus you can get a gas monitor that will show you your usage and can help you cut back to save emissions and also lots of money.
3. Reduce, reuse, recycle
Anyone can do these three things to help the planet we live on last even longer and be able to give us what we need to survive. Giving back to Mother Earth is the least we can do for all she’s given to us (hello, oxygen.) We see recycle bins everywhere, but this phrase goes beyond throwing your water bottle in a recycling bin. When possible bring a reusable tote to the grocery store or mall, buy a reusable water bottle, purchase vintage or thrifted clothing, and try composting food and yard waste.
4. Plant Fruits & Veggies
I know that not all of us have time to garden or even a yard to garden in, but the great thing about planting fruits and veggies is that you don’t need a huge backyard to do it. In fact, some people plant food in a pot on their porch, with no yard at all! Genius. Here are some of the easier fruits and veggies to plant straight from a pot and require very little time and attention:
Squash & Zucchini
5. Give Back
You can’t deny that giving back feels so good especially when it’s not just helping people but also our planet. There are so many organizations you can donate to, be a volunteer for, or partner up and help spread awareness on how others like yourself, can “go green” and give back to the world around us. Here’s a list of a few:
6. Spread Awareness
If you have done or are planning on doing any of these things to go green and make the world a better and more sustainable place for us to live in, then share it with your friends and family. Spread awareness about how easy it is, how it saves you money, and how great it feels knowing you’re a part of the change. Obviously, one person can’t do it all, and we need as much help as we can get. With each person sharing their experiences, we can inspire others to do the same.
