While there's definitely no shortage of graphic t-shirt brands in the world, there is a shortage of brands that genuinely care about supporting causes they believe in. Pamela Delgado started her tee line, Rawly Bold, in hopes of empowering and motivating others while raising money for important causes. Read on to get inspired!
What inspired you to start a clothing line?
Things had become consistently negative in our world, and I felt the need to create something that restores inspiration and positivity. I am a mom of 2, and perhaps that heightened my desire to be part of the change we hope to see. Inspiration comes in many forms, so we decided to start with simple, cool, basics.
Can you tell us about your Rise Up tee and the causes that it supports?
Rise Up was created solely to give back to charities. Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico. I am half Puerto Rican and have family that is still without electricity to this day, so, giving back to an organization that had feet on the ground, benefiting citizens was crucial. 50% of the proceeds are donated to B Strong. This organization constantly showed what funds were being used. They were going into areas of the island that FEMA hadn't been to so, donating to B Strong was a no-brainer. The other 50% we recently started donating to Everytown. They are working endlessly towards gun control. After the incident in Parkland, we felt like it's the least we can do. Safety supersedes greed—especially when it comes to the safety of our youth.
What are other causes you're thinking of supporting in the future with your clothes? Anything on the horizon?
Absolutely. We're looking to start donating to Planned Parenthood, and I Am That Girl (which provides leadership, social, and personal developmental programs for girls) and Every Mother Counts (which works towards making pregnancy and childbirth safe for mothers everywhere). Once things in Puerto Rico improve and we get the ball rolling towards gun control, we will start donating to other organizations.
What advice do you have for people looking to get involved with the March For Our Lives this weekend--whether or not they are marching?
It is entirely up to the person. Granted, the cause is pretty major, as people are dying by the thousands everyday by gun violence, but don't feel forced or feel bad if you don't attend. The march is free and is going on in cities all over the world. has in depth information about a march near you. If it's anything like the Women's March it is very empowering. The energy is amazing and it just feels awesome to be part of a movement that you know is going to impact millions.
What are your goals for your brand overall 2018?
This year we look forward to adding more styles and collaborating with other brands. We are all about supporting other businesses. Most importantly, we will continue having fun bringing awareness to Rawly Bold. It's more than just clothes. We are on a mission to inspire and spread positivity.
