A Day In The Life of Karin Eldor, Senior Contributor at Forbes

Posted on

In My Social Sunday is a series where we highlight our amazing brand fans to share a bit more about their lives. Today we sat down with Karin Eldor, a Montreal-based writer who has contributed to publications like Forbes, Teen Vogue, and more, to learn more about how she first discovered Social Sunday, what her favorite saying is, and what a day in her life is really like.

Who are you and what do you do?
I am Karin, a Senior Contributor at Forbes, where I interview badass female founders and offer impactful career advice. You can also read some of my work on sites like Create & Cultivate, Coveteur, Teen Vogue, and Shopify (where I offer social media and branding advice to retailers). After several years as a Marketing Manager in the corporate world (I say “corporate” but it was far from it, as I was working in the fashion industry), I decided to take my writing side hustle to the next level and become a freelance copywriter and journalist. That was three years ago… and I haven’t looked back since.

On a personal level, I am based in Montreal, Canada, and have two daughters, ages six and nine, who inspire me to live a life filled with integrity and impact.

How did you first learn about Social Sunday?
I stumbled on it during an Instagram deep dive! (I mean, this is how I discover most of my favorite brands today, tbh. Don’t we all?). Then I connected with founder Sam Sisca over Instagram DM thanks to a shared interest in female empowerment, retail, and The Wing, and we also realized we have several mutual connections. So it happened totally organically, and the rest is fashion history. ❤️

What is your favorite Social Sunday design and why?
As someone who travels a lot for work and is always on the go, I love the two-piece jogger set. For starters, I love a good matching set, especially in a rich neutral tone. It’s cozy-chic for flights (it’s beyond soft), and that feature with the thumbholes is such an awesome added touch to keep my sleeves down. I also love effortless looks for when I’m out running errands or working from home, so it’s basically my go-to for all the things!

Take us through an average day in your life.
Since I’m a mom of two, I love getting a head-start on my day. So during the week, I set my alarm for 5am (eeek, I know!), light up a Sunday Forever candle and fuel up my coffee machine, and get cracking on some writing. My best creative work is done when the rest of the world is still. To quote Marie Forleo, “create before you consume.” This means I write before reading, and make sure to scribble thoughts before scrolling the ‘gram.

Then it’s break time to get the kids ready for their days and once they’re off to school or camp, I get myself ready. Since I have a flexible schedule, I try to fit a workout somewhere in there, either at the gym or at home, but the struggle is real. My day is always filled with IRL or Google Hangout meetings, Forbes interviews, and writing, writing, writing. The challenge is trying to get as much done as possible before picking up my kids, so efficiency and prioritizing are key. Once the girls are home, it’s dinner and homework and hangs with them, before bedtime. Then the next shift starts, when I dive back into my inbox, get back to writing or planning for the next day, or catch up on my favorite TV shows.

How would you describe your personal style?
Effortless, somewhat European inspired (that’s the goal!), and very dynamic as I fluctuate from “monochromatic chic” to “risqué and trendy” -- it totally depends on the day, my mood and if I’m being perfectly honest, my menstrual cycle LOL.

What does your ideal Sunday look like?
“Ideal” but this is rarely the reality! Wake up naturally and read in bed for an hour, while slowly enjoying an almond milk latte and croissants (OK, the “croissant” part is the cherry on top of the fantasy, LOL). Then chilltime and hangs with my kids, where we hit up our favorite brunch spots and go for walks exploring the city or enjoy any indoor activity together. The perfect Sunday has no time constraints and features a version of myself that’s fully present -- I’m still working on that though! An ideal Sunday night is self-caring with my fave skincare products (shoutout to Then I Met You, Cocokind and Sonya Dakar!), and decompressing for the week ahead with some good (or guilty pleasure) TV.

If you could learn the answer to one question about your future, what would you ask?
Can we really have it all?

What was your AIM username?
I've always been AlwaysKarin!

What's your spirit animal?
A unicorn, because I truly believe anything is possible.

Do you have a favorite saying?
“It only takes one yes.” Whether you’re looking for a new job or undergoing a career change, are launching a new business, pitching your story to editors, or pitching yourself as a writer, all it takes is one “yes” to propel you forward. So never lose hope and keep at it!

Anything else you'd like to share?
I am so honored to featured on the site! I am someone who only aligns with brands that value integrity and impact, so I love Social Sunday's "give back" philosophy. I also admire that Social Sunday is female-owned and made in the U.S., and showcasing other women who are doing The Work, and using their voices.

Who should we feature next for In My Social Sunday? Let us know in the comments!
