I had the pleasure of meeting Suma, the voice and face behind The Fashion Beauty Junkie, at our holiday party a couple weeks ago. She was killing it with her newly purple colored strands and a leather jacket decorated with cute pins. I was drawn to her authentic New York accent, and we both bonded over our accents and being NY natives. Later on, I got to ask her some questions about her blog as well as some fashion and beauty pointers!
SOCIAL DECAY: How do you thinking being born and raised in New York has shaped you?
SUMA KAUL: Being a NY native has truly made me who I am. When you’re raised here, you learn to roll with the punches. Living in this city has given me the opportunity to be exposed to a variety of cultures and different artists. It keeps me creative and moving. I wouldn’t be the ever so changing person I’m today if I wasn’t raised in here.
SD: Which love came first- fashion or beauty?
SK: Fashion came first. Ever since I was a little girl, I always loved putting outfits together. The night before school I would pick everything out. I had it planned down to the shoes It would drive my mom crazy because I would always make a big mess. Till this day, I still make that same mess when putting outfits together but instead of my mother, it’s my boyfriend who has to deal with it. My love for beauty only came a few years ago when I started blogging. With fashion comes beauty so it was only right to pair them together.
SD: We can see a bunch of cute tattoos popping out under your sleeves in some of your posts. Which one is your favorite?
SK: My favorite tattoo is my Gypsy , which is on my upper right arm. When I went in for it, I described what I wanted her to look like and my tattoo artist captured it exactly!
SD: Do you have a go-to uniform for freezing New York winter days?
SK: When it gets cold in NY, it’s all about layering for me. It’s hard to stay super cute when you can’t feel your legs, you know what I mean? I keep my outer layers simple with a cute coat, beanie and chunky scarf and then pile the layers on underneath.
SD: What's your favorite skincare product of the moment for keeping skin nice during cold, dry months?
SK: I’m in LOVE with Bioderma Micellar Water which doubles as a makeup remover and toner. I use it every night before my night moisturizer (yes, you should have a nighttime moisturizer). My skin always feels smooth and fresh when I wake up.
SD: Who would be your dream beauty brand to collaborate with?
SK: There are so many amazing beauty brands out there that I have a true love for but if I had to just pick one, it would be Sally Hansen because I’m OBSESSED with their nail polishes. I change my nail color at least twice a week and their polishes are the easiest to work and their range of colors are gorgeous.
