SOCIAL DECAY:How old were you when you started making art?
LUCAS DAVID: When I was in high school, I thought I was not really good at anything, but creating was the exception. I like making music and painting. I decided at age 16 I wanted to be an artist because I fucking hate school or working… I started painting with oil and when I was 18 I started making more sketches and doodles and finally painting them with mixed media.
SD: How long did it take you to develop your signature style? Or did it just come naturally?
LD: I think the signature style came just naturally. Not a lot of people have the opportunity to see how their mind looks like, inside. And that's a thing I discovered as a very young age and it helped me a lot. Knowing what your passion is and what you want to do when you are a kid is awesome.
SD: Who is your favorite muse to draw?
LD: I don't know, actually. I just like drawing models or whatever my mind feels at the moment, but i'd say the first one was Taylor Momsen.
SD: Who was the first celeb to repost your work? Did you freak out?!
LD: The first celeb to repost my art was Taylor Momsen as well. I freaked the fuck out because you know she's my muse and I'm her #1 fan. It was in 2011 and it was an ugly sketch! I was dead, however she loved it… I started making a lot of drawings of Taylor. I did a drawing per day from 2010 to 2013. I'm not gonna lie; I have hundreds of drawings of her.
SD: What music do you like to listen to when you create?
LD: I listen to a lot of commercial rock like Nirvana, Marilyn Manson, The smashing pumpkins, Sonic Youth, The Distillers, Hole, etc etc. I also enjoy some Lana Del Rey or Mazzy star, and I think I’ll listen to a lot of Alice glass.
