When I asked Caleigh Giangregorio if she was ready for our interview, she answered, "Soon, I'm just hemming a dress." There's no surprise there, because this fashion designer never stops working. Really, she doesn't. Her hunger for success and work ethic are just part of the ingredients that make her a bad bitch. Caleigh knows exactly what she wants and isn't afraid to go out and get it. She wants to make it big, but doesn't want to sacrifice a part of herself in the process. What's more badass than that?
Caleigh knew she wanted to be a designer from the age of 7, when she'd put on fashion shows in her living room. Her first dream was to be a runway model, but at 5'3" it seemed more realistic to become a fashion designer and to still be a part of that world. Now, she's in a serious relationship with fashion design. Her favorite part of the design process is the idea. " When I get hit with inspiration, it's like falling in love for the first time," she adds, " Being in love with an idea is more glorious than being in love with a man." She also made sure to throw in the fact that wine is also very easy to fall in love with.
Her designs are minimalistic, and she says her aesthetic is quite simple. Most colors she uses are neutrals or muted. She focuses on the body, creating flattering yet unique silhouettes. It's all about soft materials and body contouring shapes that feel great. She wants them to look stunning, and of course, "have a bad bitch mentality." One day she dreams of having her own company, but really, she just wants to make women feel and look beautiful. She's a believer that fashion should make you feel like the best version of yourself.
For Caleigh, inspiration is pulled from everywhere. She can be inspired by anything from what someone is wearing on the street to human psychology and thoughts. Currently, she's working on a line inspired by hot air balloons, aiming to create "things that make you feel like you're floating." After she's got her idea, she thinks about fabrics and trims.
She confessed, " I knew that if I could make other people feel as special in my clothes as clothes made me feel, that I'd found the perfect job." Looks like she's on the right track, and she's unstoppable.
